Web Developer (WordPress/Shopify)

We are seeking a versatile Web Developer with expertise in WordPress, Shopify, and general web development. In this role, you will be responsible for implementing and managing websites that offer seamless user experiences across various digital platforms. Your technical skills will be crucial in ensuring the functionality, aesthetics, performance, and stability of our client websites. You work with the UI/UX designer and bridge the gap between UX web design and technical implementation, taking an active role on both sides in defining how the application looks as well as how it works.

This position will report to the Delivery Manager.

Compensation 

Annual salary range: $58,000- $64,000

Responsibilities

A web developer’s job duties cover multiple aspects of creating a web design and implementing new technical solutions. Upon meeting with clients and assessing their needs, the web developer helps build and maintain the product. 

Your duties include, but aren’t limited to, the following:

• Utilizing PHP, JavaScript, CSS, and HTML to build websites in WordPress and Shopify
• Developing front-end website architecture and back-end website applications
• Writing clean, scalable, and efficient code
• Making design decisions during development to fill in the gaps between UX prototype and finished products (such as hover effects, animations, and responsiveness)
• Working alongside UX designer, giving direction on web development best practices
• Creating responsive and accessible user interfaces for web applications in accordance with best practices
• Creating web pages with page builder plugins, and writing code to extend page builder plugins when custom functionality is needed
• Participating in project planning sessions to understand clients’ goals and objectives. This also includes updating management and/or clients on progress and challenges.
• Demonstrating readiness to engage directly with clients during large team planning sessions and to communicate process updates or seek clarifications as needed
• Implementing optimization techniques to enhance the performance and loading times of websites while ensuring they are responsive across all devices
• Participating in QA testing of code and projects, both in the development phase and before deployment
• Providing estimates for scope of work during the initial sales process 
• Collaborating with a diverse, cross-functional team to drive project success and ensure alignment with clients’ goals.
• Implementing security measures to protect data and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, particularly if handling sensitive or personal user data
• Remaining updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices that can be leveraged to enhance existing solutions or to develop new innovative solutions
• Investigating problems with or without prompting from clients or management
• Assisting RedTree staff as needed for research, clerical work, or any other job-related duties

Skill Requirements

This position requires the following but is not limited to:

• 2-4 years of development or related technical experience
• Strong understanding of web markup, including JavaScript/jQuery, PHP, CSS
• Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git or SVN
• Proficient knowledge of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them
• Experience in ecommerce development
• Collaborative problem solving skills
• Basic knowledge of image authoring tools, to be able to crop, resize, or perform small adjustments on an image. Familiarity with tools such as Gimp or Photoshop is a plus
• Highly skilled in WordPress and Shopify and how to configure its default settings or introduce your own
• Familiar with SEO best practices
• Proficient knowledge of client-side scripting and JavaScript frameworks
• Experience working in an agile/scrum development process is a plus
• Be open to receiving objective criticism and improving upon it
• Be able to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including team members, upper management, and clients.
• Unit/integration testing experience is a plus

Work Schedule 

This is a full-time, remote position. You are scheduled to work 40 hours per week.
