The Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Strategist / Copywriter is responsible for advising on and implementing SEO best practices for our clients’ web content and digital marketing campaigns. The SEO Strategist / Copywriter will use technical skills in SEO best practices and data analysis to develop strategies that help clients achieve their goals. This position conducts ongoing keyword and competitive research to consistently increase clients’ organic search rankings and optimization. Additionally, the SEO strategist is responsible for building and analyzing reports that inform our client’s digital marketing decisions. This includes conducting SEO-specific audits to ensure SEO and accessibility best practices are followed. You’ll collaborate on a cross-functional team to optimize web content and landing pages. This position collaborates with our UX and Dev teams to ensure that the website user has an ideal experience; therefore helping our clients’ brands lead to increased site traffic, brand awareness and potential increase in lead volume and conversions.

This position will report to the Delivery Manager.

The successful candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.


Annual salary, exempt, between $58,000- $64,000 depending on experience

This is a full-time, remote position. You are scheduled to work 40 hours per week.


The SEO Strategist / Copywriter is responsible for developing and implementing effective SEO strategies tailored to client goals, including conducting keyword research and optimizing website content for search engines. They set up and manage Google Analytics to track and report on performance, analyze competitor strategies, and perform technical audits to improve site structure and performance. Collaboration with cross-functional team members is crucial to ensure cohesive strategies, and while content creation is a secondary task, optimizing existing content and creating new SEO-enhanced articles can enhance keyword strategies. Regular reporting and data analysis are essential to monitor and improve SEO efforts.

The SEO Strategist / Copywriter job duties include, but aren’t limited to, the following:

Developing and Implementing SEO Strategies

  • Analyze our client’s SEO needs based on their goals and create initiatives to address these needs.
  • Conduct keyword research to guide content which ensures alignment with clients’ goals.
  • Develop, execute, and optimize SEO strategies across various digital channels to improve organic search rankings and drive traffic.
  • Perform ongoing keyword discovery, expansion, and optimization.
  • Optimize website content, meta tags, and structure for maximum search engine visibility.
  • Implement link-building strategies to improve the site’s authority and search engine rankings.
  • Monitor and analyze competitor SEO strategies and web presence to identify new opportunities.
  • Google Analytics and Tracking:
    • Set up and manage Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager to track, analyze, and report on website traffic and user behavior.
    • Create and manage custom events, goals, and conversions to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs).
    • Develop detailed performance reports, providing actionable insights and recommendations to improve SEO efforts.
  • SEO implementation based on analysis to drive conversions and increase a client’s return on investment (ROI).
  • Monitor trends and new releases related to the core algorithms for key search engines such as Google and Bing to determine a strategy for ranking websites better in organic results across the web.
  • Increase a website’s visibility within the search engines by employing smart on-page tactics—keyword research, keywords tag, internal linking, clean URLs, etc.
  • Conducts A/B testing as needed.

Reporting and Analysis

  • Generate regular reports on SEO performance, using data to track progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Analyze the data and metrics produced from the website and SEO campaigns to ensure that the website reaches and maintains the highest possible rankings in SERPS.
  • Assess risks and forecasting trends and how they’ll affect future traffic 
  • Analyze data from various sources (e.g., Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Moz Local, Moz Pro and Databox) to provide insights and recommendations to the health and rankings of sites 
  • Present findings and strategic recommendations in a clear and actionable manner.
  • Conduct comprehensive technical audits to identify issues and recommend solutions for site structure, page speed, and other technical elements.
  • Implement and maintain title and meta tags. Troubleshoot URL redirects and 404 errors.


  • Continuously update skills and knowledge to stay competitive and effective in SEO strategies.
  • Work closely with a cross-functional team including marketing, design, and development to ensure cohesive and effective SEO strategies.
  • Teach or guide team members on current SEO best practices and tools.
  • Collaborate with the content team to create high-quality, engaging content that is optimized for search engines and aligned with the target audience’s needs.
  • Work closely with the team to ensure our clients’ websites are optimally developed and launched according to timelines. 
  • Adapt to changing market conditions, customer needs, and business priorities, and adjust product strategies and plans accordingly.
  • Be open to receiving and giving objective criticism 
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Assist RedTree staff as needed for research, clerical work, or any other job-related duties.
  • Be an active member of the team by taking initiative, participating in discussions and projects, and offering suggestions for improvements to communication and processes.

Content Creation

  • Create SEO-enhanced articles to help with keyword strategy
  • Write clear, compelling, and engaging copy for various platforms, including websites, blogs, social media, emails, and advertisements.
  • Develop content that aligns with the client’s brand voice and target audience.
  • Work closely with clients to understand their needs, goals, and preferences.
  • Participate in client meetings and provide content recommendations based on their objectives.
  • Optimize current articles or pages to enhance SEO opportunities.
  • Review and edit content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
  • Proofread for grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, and overall quality before publication.
  • Collaborate with designers, developers, and other team members to ensure content complements the visual and functional aspects of web projects.

Skill Requirements

This position requires the following but is not limited to:

  • 2-4 years of SEO and copywriting or related technical experience
  • Data analysis: The ability to read and understand data and use that data to implement optimizations moving forward
  • Experience writing for professional services like Lawyers, Dentists, Doctors, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills to convert the data into easily understood reports
  • Strong working knowledge of Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Google Tag Manager and Moz
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality
  • Ability to follow outlined processes and demonstrate good judgment
  • Ability to work well independently and with a team
  • Can work remotely and attend virtual meetings
  • Familiarity with Google Docs/Google Sheets
  • Portfolio of SEO-oriented website and blogging copywriting projects
